Preparing Yerba Mate in a Yerbacup

 Yerba Mate YerbaCup

The YerbaCup Method

A Yerba Mate serving cup that eliminates the need to pour water while maintaining as close to the principles of the traditional method as possible. The YerbaCup®,,, design is the worlds most popular and accepted version, it easily extracts the nutrients and compounds that help support a balanced living. It follows the basic principle of the traditional method by using a built in straw with a built in water chamber, allowing for less water with more nutrients. It also makes it easier to break, intentionally or unintentionally, the recommended method of less water.

Advantages

  • Makes enjoying Yerba Mate easy when commuting to work, sitting in class, or whenever you're in a hurry.

Disadvantages

  • Bitterness is a good trait in moderation but undesirable if overpowering. Those seeking less bitterness will want to add sweetener, oat milk, and/or other creamer, This is comparable to peoples preference for either coffee black, with cream, or with cream and sugar. Natural or wood gourds moderate the bitterness even without adding a cream or a sugar.
  • Does not work as well with leaf only brands of Yerba Mate.

Easiest Explanation

  1. Fill lower basin 1/2 full with hot water.
  2. Fill upper colored cup 1/2 full with yerba mate tea.
  3. Suck through straw to enjoy the benefits of this totally new method.

Popular Mate Flavors or Additives

Many prefer the taste of the Yerba Mate by itself, while others like to accentuate the flavor with different additives.

Detailed Explanation

  1. Pour hot water that is not boiling onto the base of the Yerba Cup. The temperature of the water is a personal choice. Do not use very hot water, as one could burn the throat. This concept applies to all hot liquids: very hot coffee, soup, or tea is dangerous for our throats. Still, people will push the boundaries in an effort to extract even more chemicals and nutrients or for the pleasure they might find in drinking very hot drinks. Don't burn yourself: find a safe level between (160-185 degrees Fahrenheit or 71 - 85 degrees Celsius).
  2. Fill upper basin (colored part) half full of yerba mate and optional smaller dried additives (e.g., other herbs or small fruit peels). Put plastic lid/straw over upper basin.
  3. Optional Step- Turn upper colored basin upside down, and shake vigorously to help prepare the yerba mate. This moves the smaller leaf particles to the top in order to prevent the straw (bombilla) from clogging.
  4. Place upper basin over lower basin.
  5. Drink and enjoy!
  6. Optional Step - Wait until the first sip of water soaks into the tea. This will allow the Yerba Mate to become moist and helps to create more suction to extract more nutrients.
  7. Optional Step - Add larger additives like mint leaves, cinnamon sticks, honey, or lemon juice (to name a few) into the uppper basin as desired.
  8. Optional Step - Some people love the first sip because it is the most nutrient rich. Others do not like the first sip because it is either too strong or the temperature of the tea is too cool for their enjoyment. For those that dislike the first sip, they will discard it before swallowing.
  9. Be sure to follow the recommended use procedures.
